Objects to photograph at home.

There are times that there is so much around us to take photos of and other times that we run out of ideas. Simple things can make a difference and allow us to work on different areas of photography. In this post we will see and discuss how we are able to achieve this and what might be the result. One day while sitting at home, trying to find a location to go and photograph, I came up with the idea to use objects that I have home, to take a nice photo.

Objects used:
  • Candle Pot
  • Led Torch
  • Pen
  • Paper with lines
Photo No 1:

In this photo, I have used a purple candle pot and a led torch. What I have done to create this effect? I lighted up the candle inside the candle pot so I will get some light from inside. Then I have setup the torch so it will hit directly in the center of the candle pot. The outer light of the torch was hitting the edge of the candle pot. I turned off the lights of the room and the outcome was beautiful. The candle pot is placed on the floor. The reflection from the tiles adds more to the photograph.

Photo No 2:

Now in this photo, I have used the same candle pot. The candle is still burning inside and the reflections from the fire on the tiles are creating the effect that you see on the above photo. As you are able to see, the candle pot has it own design which help us to get the effect that we have.

Photo No 3:

On this photos I have only used a pen and a paper. The only thing I had to do, is to setup the pan and the paper in a way that I like it. Then I have arranged to turn on the lights that I only needed in the room, and take the shots. I took several photos from different angles. Removing the color of the specific photo, gave me a different look.

Hope you liked it.

Elephant – A magnificent animal (Photos)

Information about elephants:

The largest land mammal on earth, the African elephant weighs up to eight tons. The elephant is distinguished by its massive body, large ears and a long trunk, which has many uses ranging from using it as a hand to pick up objects, as a horn to trumpet warnings, an arm raised in greeting to a hose for drinking water or bathing.

Led by a matriarch, elephants are organized into complex social structures of females and calves, while male elephants tend to live in isolation. A single calf is born to a female once every 4-5 years and after a gestation period of 22 months—the longest of any mammal. These calves stay with their mothers for years and are also cared for by other females in the group.

The above have been taken from World Wild Life website.

African Elephant:

  • Weight: 4 – 7 tonnes
  • Height: 3 meters
  • Length: 5 – 7.5 meters
  • Lifespan: 60 – 70 years
  • Food: 225 Kg per day
  • Water: 190 litres per day

These animals have major role in nature. I was amazed when I found out that elephants do not follow any paths in the bush but they create their own and these paths are used later by other animals either to reach the water or run away from the predators. Elephants are also throwing the trees down while scratching themselves or to reach the top leaves. Later, other animals are going to these fallen trees to eat also and this helps them to find food even if the grass started to dry out.

Color Blindness

Color has a significant role in our lives.

Colors are amazing and give so much meaning to our everyday life. Without them, life, would be boring and dull. They can affect all of our senses, and our emotional world! Color can awaken memories, feelings good or bad and can make us happy or miserable at the same time.

Have you ever imagined how color affects color blind people?

Color blind people are not able to see specific color or any colors at all. There are different types and causes of color blindness. For the vast majority of people with deficient color vision, this condition is genetic and is inherited from their mother, although some people become color blind as a result of other disease or medication. I was intrigued by this matter, during these Christmas holidays, when a friend of mine, confessed he is color blind! All of a sudden my shock turned into curiosity – in a good sense – and I wanted to look more into it. Being a photographer this gave me a subject to work on.

Traditionally, Christmas is all about Green Christmas trees decorated with different color ornaments, red, gold, silver and blue. So how do color blind people see all these? The most common type of color blindness that affects people relates to green and red color. I am giving you a brief explanation below for the color blindness types and further down some pictures as seen by color blind people.

I am quoting below a brief explanation, as given by the National Eye Institute, for the different types of color blindness followed by some pictures to illustrate how color blind people perceive an image

Red-Green Color Blindness

The most common types of hereditary color blindness are due to the loss or limited function of red cone (known as protan) or green cone (deutran) photopigments. This kind of color blindness is commonly referred to as red-green color blindness.

  • Protanomaly: In males with protanomaly, the red cone photopigment is abnormal. Red, orange, and yellow appear greener and colors are not as bright. This condition is mild and doesn’t usually interfere with daily living. Protanomaly is an X-linked disorder estimated to affect 1 percent of males.
  • Protanopia: In males with protanopia, there are no working red cone cells. Red appears as black. Certain shades of orange, yellow, and green all appear as yellow. Protanopia is an X-linked disorder that is estimated to affect 1 percent of males.
  • Deuteranomaly: In males with deuteranomaly, the green cone photopigment is abnormal. Yellow and green appear redder and it is difficult to tell violet from blue. This condition is mild and doesn’t interfere with daily living. Deuteranomaly is the most common form of color blindness and is an X-linked disorder affecting 5 percent of males.
  • Deuteranopia: In males with deuteranopia, there are no working green cone cells. They tend to see reds as brownish-yellow and greens as beige. Deuteranopia is an X-linked disorder that affects about 1 percent of males.

Blue-Yellow Color Blindness

Blue-yellow color blindness is rarer than red-green color blindness. Blue-cone (tritan) photopigments are either missing or have limited function.

  • Tritanomaly: People with tritanomaly have functionally limited blue cone cells. Blue appears greener and it can be difficult to tell yellow and red from pink. Tritanomaly is extremely rare. It is an autosomal dominant disorder affecting males and females equally.
  • Tritanopia: People with tritanopia, also known as blue-yellow color blindness, lack blue cone cells. Blue appears green and yellow appears violet or light grey. Tritanopia is an extremely rare autosomal recessive disorder affecting males and females equally.

Complete color blindness

People with complete color blindness (monochromacy) don’t experience color at all and the clearness of their vision (visual acuity) may also be affected.

There are two types of monochromacy:

  • Cone monochromacy: This rare form of color blindness results from a failure of two of the three cone cell photopigments to work. There is red cone monochromacy, green cone monochromacy, and blue cone monochromacy. People with cone monochromacy have trouble distinguishing colors because the brain needs to compare the signals from different types of cones in order to see color. When only one type of cone works, this comparison isn’t possible. People with blue cone monochromacy, may also have reduced visual acuity, near-sightedness, and uncontrollable eye movements, a condition known as nystagmus. Cone monochromacy is an autosomal recessive disorder.
  • Rod monochromacy or achromatopsia: This type of monochromacy is rare and is the most severe form of color blindness. It is present at birth. None of the cone cells have functional photopigments. Lacking all cone vision, people with rod monochromacy see the world in black, white, and gray. And since rods respond to dim light, people with rod monochromacy tend to be photophobic – very uncomfortable in bright environments. They also experience nystagmus. Rod monochromacy is an autosomal recessive disorder.

Photos in different views

Each photo below has 9 versions:

  1. Normal Vision
  2. Protanomaly – Weak Red
  3. Deuteranomaly – Weak Green
  4. Tritanomaly – Weak Blue-Yellow
  5. Protanopia – Red Color Blind
  6. Deuteranopia – Green Color Blind
  7. Tritanopia – Blue-Yellow Color Blind
  8. Monochromacy/Achromatopsia – Full Color Blind
  9. Blue Cone Monochromacy

The versions have been sorted in the same way for all photos so it will be easier for you to see the differences.

Please bare in mind that the versions are automatically rotated so you have to scroll back to the original version to see the differences between the image with normal vision and the various types of color blindness

As you can see above, color blind people see things differently and in my opinion it is good to know the different ways they understand color.

Auschwitz Concentration Camp

Auschwitz…a black spot in world history.

Background story

The reason I am writing this post is not about discussing or analysing the historic events. I am writing this a part of a travel destination and present to you my experience through my photos.

Anger, madness, sadness, pain, thirst, hunger are some of the feelings that you see in front of you. I was not able to believe that, by only visiting this place, I could imagine all things like they were happening in front of me. Auschwitz was a concentration and a death camp at the same time. Due to that, prisoners were sentenced to death from the time they were going in the camp. Death may come to the prisoners due to bad living conditions, exhaustion, gas chambers, shooting and suicide. The reason that I am mentioning suicide is that, due to bad living conditions, the prisoners were believing that suicide is their redemption and they will not suffer anymore.

Feelings while you are walking in the camp/memorial are so strong that for me is so difficult to show them otherwise than thought my photos.

You can find my photos below and I hope you enjoy them.

Cyprus Rally 2016 – Background Story

Cyprus Rally is one of the biggest sport event that happens in Cyprus in my opinion. It always provides us with excitement, adrenaline and a lot of show. Fans of sports cars and cars in general, speed and risk are gathering to watch the 3 days event every year. A lot of fans from abroad also come in Cyprus to watch the event. Cyprus Rally 2016 was held on 7-9 October 2016.

I know that I am late for posting photos related to Cyprus Rally 2016, but I would like to share them with you. Some of you may not be interested at all or not any more after almost 2 months from the event. For those who are still interested to see some more photos you may find them below.

Cyprus Rally 2016 is part of European Rally Championship (ERC) and FIA Middle-East Rally Championship.

I was not able to follow them and get photos during the real action, but I had a few minutes to capture some of the cars right after the official start ceremony. Cars/crews were passing in front of me, heading for the first stage of the competition.

Conditions

It was difficult for me to capture the cars as I wanted to, due to the light conditions. I managed to get some decent results on my photos. At that time, there was a lot of traffic and night was coming, so lighting was changing all the time. Physical light was getting less and less and another thing was the headlights of the cars. The sport was hit by the Headlights of the cars were hitting the spot from 3 different directions and even towards my camera. As the cars were passing by, direction of light was changing continuously, along with the shadows that were created.

Below you will find some of the photos that I was able to capture with my lens.

Hello all,

This is my first blog post on my website and it is related with an important event that happen globally.

Background Story

Moon, as all objects in the universe, has elliptical orbit, therefore on 14 of November 2016, it was at the closest point from Earth since 1948 as per NASA. The next Super Moon that will be that close to Earth will occur on 25th of November 2034. In 2016 there was another Super Moon on 16th of October and another one will occur on 14th of December. Those two Super Moon will not be as close as November’s one. During that night, Moon was 14% bigger in diameter and 30% brighter than normal.

Check my photos below, leave comments, enjoy.
